Independent Nurses Working Collectively in the Community

North Bay Nursing Agency is an organization of nurses (PSWs; RPNs and RNs) who work independently but cooperatively for their own benefit; the benefit of the patient and for the benefit of the group. The whole co-op group meets quarterly to network, learn and share.

Enjoy Agency and Group Support, While Working For Yourself

Each nurse individually owns and operates their own home business, with the benefits and autonomy of an independent practitioner. The nurse is supported and coached by a qualified Nurse Home Office Facilitator, a Nurse Practitioner, and an MD, to help them manage their home office and oversee clinical policies, issues, and concerns. This provides ongoing supervision and meets the criteria required by extended health care plans. Professional liability and conduct is the sole responsibility of the professional, and those costs can be expensed against their business.

Strength in Numbers

Collectively, as a group, the nurses in the co-op negotiate with the government (OHIP) and insurance agencies (Great West Life; Blue Cross; Sun Life etc) for fee-for-service payment, which goes directly into the nurses’ bank accounts. The group has more purchasing power, which generates discounts on membership; liability insurance, home/auto insurance, office supplies, and technology.

Record-Keeping

For each patient, a common electronic record is created, and a nursing care plan is generated and stored in a secure computer system. This common electronic medical chart and care plan may be securely shared–with consent from the patient–within the circle of care, inside and outside the agency.
