Registered Acupuncturists and Your Insurance Coverage

Last week we reported that Kim and Colleen were travelling to Toronto to write an Acupuncture Safety Exam mandated by the TC-CTCMPAO:

The Transitional Council of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (TC-CTCMPAO) is authorized by law, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006 and the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, to develop regulations and to establish the College for the governance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practices in Ontario to protect the publicā€™s right to safe, competent and ethical TCM care.

Kim and Colleen both passed this federal exam, which means that they will be grandfathered in as registered acupuncturists under the new College, which is in the process of being established. The CollegeĀ of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario will function in the same way as the Ontario College of Nurses, or the Ontario College of Physicians, providing a body which upholds standards of care.

Insurance companies will recognize acupuncturists who are registered under this College and will cover their services, so check with your insurance company to make sure your practitioner is registered.
