Depression and Anxiety

Depression tends to follow a major loss or life changes such as a move, a job change or the death of a loved one. Grief and depression are closely linked.

Talk to your doctor to make sure you should be medicated – get a proper diagnosis that comes from identifying the underlying cause; antidepressants aren’t always the answer – acupuncture and massage can be helpful in treating depression so speak to your doctor before starting a course of treatment.

Daily exercise cures many things – exercise one minute per day for each year of your age (for example if you’re 50, work out for 50 minutes per day). Fit it into your schedule somehow.

If you suffer from anxiety, acupuncture can be helpful in treating it. There are specific acupuncture points for anxiety! Also, try abdominal or yoga breathing; ten deep breaths can help you get an anxiety attack under control. That’s all it takes to move your nervous system from sympathetic (which is ‘go’) to sympathetic (which is ‘yield’). Try candlelight, or a warm bath. Avoid upsetting TV, especially news shows, before bed. Instead, play with your children or your pets or read your kids a bedtime story.
